The pencil-post bed headboard is of planchonia, a dark red tropical hardwood. The pineapples are hand carved, with the fluting done on a shaper.
The gulls are shown swimming on the lower area of ripply water, or flying overhead on the smooth sky.
The gulls are of walnut, holly and yellow cedar, with small additions of purple heart and African ebony. They are made
about 3 mm thick so they are proud of the surface and have some texture. The gull reflection in the water is walnut
and holly with sand shading to darken the wood.
